Understanding Bracing for Scoliosis
Research supports brace treatment. Bracing has been used as an early intervention treatment with scoliosis for decades. There are many types, ranging from soft dynamic braces to the traditional scoliosis braces, called TLSOs (thoraco-lumbo-sacral orthoses), many like the Boston or Milwaukee brace are premade off the shelf customizable braces that work by using three-point pressure to immobilize the spine—similar to treating a fracture. Bracing has been shown to be moderately effective in preventing curve progression and surgery, success depends greatly on how many hours the brace is worn. For example, the BRAIST study showed a 72% success rate with consistent brace use.
Custom Fit: At Scolifix each brace is individually designed specifically for the individual using 3D body scans x-rays and CAD/CAM technology after a detailed scoliosis assessment.
Corrective Design: Instead of simply holding the spine in place with three-point pressure the ScoliBrace® gently guides the body into a “mirror image” of the curvature. Its unique asymmetrical shape works with the spine’s natural coupling motion to support curve reduction.
Patient-Friendly: The brace comes in a variety of colors and patterns so patients can express their individual style. With the opening in the front its easy wear and removal even for our youngest patients.
Using cutting-edge scanning and x-ray imagery we create the worlds best truly custom-fit brace tailored to each patient’s curve and posture. No two ScoliBrace®s are alike—because no two scoliosis curves are the same.
